About the customer
Mt Rex Shipping is a sand dredging operation supplying sand for Atlas Quarries. Working with sand and saltwater creates a more aggressive wear environment than typical quarry applications that handle larger materials. Finer sand particles, combined with saltwater can work their way into tight gaps and working components, causing widespread wear across both bucket surfaces and smaller mechanical parts. Products Supplied
West-Trak’s regional account manager, Matthew Link, and our Industry Manager for Engineering & Quarrying, Avi Walia, worked closely with Mt Rex Shipping to provide wear steel solutions specific to their job conditions with a site visit to measure up their Clam shell bucket on a Leibherr SH80. Using our in-house drawing capability, we then designed a new liner + wear strips for Mt Rex’s sand dredging bucket, and delivered the fresh new products to their door. At the same time, we also supplied them a brand new cutting edge to a loader, also needing a repair due to extensive wear.
