Alex Mason Contracting is a Canterbury-based earthmoving contractor that works across a wide range of projects, including site preparation, rural earthworks, and riverbed maintenance. Their work often takes them into challenging environments where machine uptime and reliability are essential.
The Environment
We met Alex Mason’s D65 in the dry riverbed of the Eyre River. With an ever-shifting gravel riverbed, braided rivers like this are a punishing environment for any machine. The Project
During a recent project, the Komatsu D65 Dozer was tasked with re-shaping and repairing multiple river crossings along the Eyre River. To ensure the productivity and reliability of the machine, West-Trak supplied a complete undercarriage package — SALT chains, track shoes, rollers, idlers, sprocket segments, and all hardware — all designed for long life in abrasive and varying ground conditions.
The Outcome
With the new setup fitted, the Dozer is already making light work of the Eyre River’s gravel beds. While it’s early days, the robust undercarriage will give Alex Mason Contracting confidence that their machine is ready for the workload ahead, helping them focus on delivering projects rather than worrying about downtime.
