Overview

Greystone Screening & Crushing operate multiple aggregate sites across the Cantebury region, producing high-quality aggregates for the local construction and infrastructure market. Among their extensive plant at their Rakaia site is a Terex Finlay 883+ Scalping Screen. Used for processing river run gravel and rock up to 200mm in size, with output feeding the region’s growing demand for aggregate.

The Challenge

Greystone were dealing with repeated failures in their screen media – especially mesh breaking due to issues with the hook/tensioning systems. This caused unnecessary replacement costs and unplanned downtime. Their goal was straightforward: reduce running costs, improve durability, and keep product flowing.

West-Trak’s solution

West-Trak supplied 125mm punch plate manufactured from 10mm G450 wear-resistant steel (450HB hardness) for the Finlay 883+ Top Deck.

  • Precision fabrication: CNC milling and CNC plasma cutting to exact machine specifications.
  • Heavy-duty material: High hardness steel for maximum wear life under high-impact conditions.

The Result

The switch to punch plates has solved Greystone’s screen breakage problems and reduced their ongoing maintenance costs. General Manager Doug Dold of Greystone, reports that the new plates are performing well and meeting production needs without the failures they previously experienced.
